DESCRIZIONE: La farnia è un albero dal portamento maestoso ed elegante, come pianta isolata si presenta con una chioma espansa, molto ampia e di forma globosa e irregolare, ma nei boschi la sua chioma assume un aspetto ovale allungato, con fusto alto e dritto. Raggiunge un’altezza che va dai 25 ai 40 m, eccezionalmente 50. Il fusto è diritto e robusto e alla base si allarga come per rafforzare la pianta; i rami con il passare del tempo divengono via via più massicci, nodosi e contorti. Essendo una pianta monoica, ogni esemplare porta fiori di entrambi i sessi, molto simili a quelli delle altre querce. I fiori maschili si presentano in amenti filiformi di colore giallognolo; quelli femminili sono da 1 a 3 su un lungo peduncolo. La fioritura avviene nel periodo di aprile-maggio, contemporanea con la fogliazione.

DESCRIPTION: The Quercus roburis a tree with a majestic and elegant posture, as an isolated plant it has an expanded crown, very wide and globose and irregular, but in the woods its crown takes on an elongated oval appearance, with a tall and straight stem. It reaches a height ranging from 25 to 40 m, exceptionally 50. The stem is straight and robust and at the base it widens as to strengthen the plant; the branches become more and more massive, gnarled and twisted. Being a monoecious plant, each specimen carries flowers of both sexes, very similar to those of the other oaks. The male flowers present in yellowish filiform catkins; the female ones are from 1 to 3 on a long peduncle. The flowering takes place in the period of April-May, contemporary with the foliation.
