DESCRIZIONE: Il Corbezzolo è un arbusto o piccolo albero sempreverde dalla corteccia squamata rossastra e dall’alto valore ornamentale. Presenta una caratteristica molto rara in natura: fiorisce mentre matura i frutti dell’anno precedente. Da questi frutti globosi si ottengono confetture e un particolarissimo miele dal retrogusto amaro. Una curiosità affascinante: per la sua particolarità di mostrare contemporaneamente foglie verdi, fiori bianchi a campanella e frutti rossi, è stato insignito in epoca risorgimentale del titolo di “pianta nazionale italiana”, poiché i suoi colori richiamano quelli del tricolore.

DESCRIPTION: The Strawberry Tree is an evergreen shrub or small tree with scaly reddish bark and high ornamental value. It displays a very rare trait in nature: it blooms while ripening the previous year’s fruit. From these globose fruits, jams and a very unique honey with a bitter aftertaste are obtained. A fascinating fact: because of its peculiarity of simultaneously displaying green leaves, white bell-shaped flowers, and red fruits, it was awarded the title of “Italian national plant” during the Risorgimento era, as its colors echo the Italian flag.
