DESCRIZIONE: Il Prunus avium, o ciliegio, è uno degli alberi più incantevoli da ammirare in natura. L’esplosione dei suoi candidi fiori primaverili annuncia l’arrivo della bella stagione, seguita dai dolcissimi frutti rossi di cui vanno ghiotti anche gli uccelli (da qui il nome botanico “avium”). Una curiosità affascinante: in antichità, la resina trasparente e profumata che essuda dalla corteccia del ciliegio per rimarginare le ferite veniva raccolta e utilizzata dalle persone come una primordiale e dolciastra “gomma da masticare”.

DESCRIPTION: Prunus avium, or wild cherry, is one of the most enchanting trees to admire in nature. The explosion of its pristine white spring flowers heralds the arrival of the beautiful season, followed by the sweet red fruits that are also eagerly eaten by birds (hence the botanical name “avium”). A fascinating fact: in ancient times, the clear, fragrant resin that exudes from the cherry tree’s bark to heal wounds was collected and used by people as a primordial, sweetish “chewing gum.”
